personality. on the outside laura presents as bubbly, girly and personable. she's quick to introduce herself to people and is more than willing to lend a hand to get her foot in the door with people. laura is good at understanding people and often uses this to ensure that the people around her are being honest, mostly under the guise of not being able to help them if they aren't honest with her. at her core, laura is manipulative and enjoys twisting people into doing things for her. she is power hungry and often cold when making decisions for a group. she has a machiavellian stance in that the ends always justify the means for her: even if they don't go to plan. her ideals deep down, she's lonely, and despite forever having her mentor's soul entwined with her own, she feels as though she lacks understanding and empathy from other people. most of the time this is her own doing. both by accident and on purpose, she pushes others away in order to remain in control of every situation she puts herself in.important npc: christian biggs. the tremere that manipulated laura's every move for the first few months of her life. he kindled the flames of her desperation, forcing her to kill an innocent to prove her loyalty to him. the pair retained a toxic sensual relationship despite neither's attraction to anything but what the other could give them in other avenues. both master manipulators, it was the older that would eventually get the upper hand and begin performing a ritual that would surely spell the demise of laura and her comrades. in an attempt to stop the ritual, laura used the powers of oblivion she'd been given to necrotise his corpse. in the process however, the ritual culminated and a blast of energy pulsed from christian's body. the ritual had half-succeeded, with christian's soul finding a new body indeed, but not quite the one he had anticipated. rather than taking over the body of a methuselah salubri, his psyche had been fused with laura's, forever leaving him as a dark and chiding presence in the back of her mind from that day forward.
backstory (abridged). laura's life pre-vampirism was barely anything she'd consider worth noting. a relatively normal upbringing alongside her troublesome older brother and angelic younger sister, she was the forgotten middle child left with the expectations of being the 'better' child than her brother was. she was accepted into law school and finished her first year there without issue, though it was in the september of her second year that her entire life fell apart.kidnapped and kept in a cell for multiple days, laura was starved and desperate by the time she discovered others had been taken alongside her. other girls from her university, people she'd seen but never interacted with. at first she'd thought it a cruel joke, but that thought was soon dismissed when the girls discovered another young woman with a strange symbol carved into her -- that of a human body with a hole cut out of its middle. confused and scared, the girls attempted to free themselves from their captors only to end up directly in the centre of a ritual being performed by the cult of shalim. for their mistakes, each girl was sentenced to a fate worse than death: they were each embraced to become catalysts for the end of the world.upon waking up laura found herself in the same cell as before, although this time accompanied by yet another stranger. this girl had been bound and blindfolded, and upon inspection appeared to beg for laura to drink her dry as a sacrifice to their dark deity. despite her attempts to avoid bloodshed laura succumbed to the beast within and drained the girl, committing the first violent act of her life. vampirism. after being discovered by the camarilla, laura had a choice: she had to fight to live or die twice in the same night. as fresh fledglings sired by unknowns, the group had to convince the camarilla court to spare them. that night she learned of her lineage -- the lasombra -- and their former ties to 'the sabbat', learning also that a former member of the sect now resided as the head of the tremere chantry in the city, and the court's primogen. in an attempt to learn more about her blood, she approached the man and forced him to pay attention to her ambition. the tremere relented, pledging himself to the girls' survival in exchange for promise of future favours from laura herself.more to come.

verse: final fantasy xiv. nova was born in xak tural, but found herself longing for adventure as she came of age. after taking the first boat she could afford a ticket on, the young shetona found herself in doma. after a chance encounter with a shinobi in yanxia, she became the man's apprentice and eventually became friends with oboro and tsubame. upon the start of their pursuit of karasu, nova followed. it was here in eorzea that she found her calling: the scions of the seventh dawn. after hearing of the warrior of light's feats against the ultima weapon, she chose to join the scions as has been working closely with the warrior of light ever since.
personality. on the outside nova can be cold, even intimidating to most. she looks down at everyone that is not in her immediate circle and especially likes to make men or masc-aligned people feel uncomfortable in her presence. she presents herself as a sexual, sensual femme fatale because she knows it sells. nova is a performer. she knows what people want and moulds herself to give it to them. at her core, she is extremely family oriented for the found family that she has built for herself. nova cut off her birth family when she left them for greener pastures and did not once look for them while they were still alive. the family that she has accumulated -- her brothers and daughters -- are people that she would die (and kill) for. nova is a fiercely loyal person to the point where she can easily be misled by someone that she is loyal to. her ideals relate strongly to her will to survive, and for those she cares about to survive. all that matters to her is that she and her daughters carve out the future that they want to see. deep down, she struggles with maintaining her humanity. nova is a murderer. she has committed sins beyond human morality and is very aware that she is not human and thus does not abide by human morality laws. she does not even think about killing as a terrible act any more. she knows that she is irredeemable. also, she's a hypocrite! she cares so deeply about those close to her but has absolutely no qualms about taking other people's loved ones away from them.

backstory (abridged). created by the drogovas clan via a ritual to create new, artificial vampires, omen was one of the few failed attempts that survived past the ordeal. abandoned by the vampires in the streets of the azurite ward, he was found by muramasa makino, the heir to the ward's criminal organisation: the unfallen. given the name ryūnosuke, the child grew up in relative solitude due to his mother's responsibilities. he was primarily brought up by various nannies and attended the local high school as a civilian child. having been left alone for the majority of his formative years, omen gained a passion for art and eventually took up an apprenticeship with the unfallen's specialist tattoo artist. at age sixteen, omen took up his oath with the unfallen, immediately being granted his own sub unit to command at will.uhhh tldring the rest because my brain poofed out:

backstory (abridged). pearl grew up as the niece of one of -- if not the most -- diamond city's most prolific megacorporation CEOs. whitestar industries pioneered the technology to make the New World habitable back in the days of eld, after the people of Solteria were forced to relocate after a disaster on their home world. she grew up privileged, pampered and never learned of the world outside her luxurious bubble. university years. once at university, everything changed for pearl. her eyes were opened to the backgrounds of those around her for the first time in her life, and she learned that her family was often the indirect cause of other people's suffering. after her first year she refused to return home, instead deciding to form a society based on providing aid to students whose families had been displaced or otherwise victimised by the megacorporations of the city. she and her best friend, a tiefling named mayhem, moved to the Jasper Ward, where Pearl then found her way into the Scarlet Guard. personality. on the outside xyra appears completely cold and emotionless, and that is true to a point. centuries spent in the shadowfell have dulled her to the point of near emptiness, though that is not to say she does not intend to feel things. being on the mortal plane again, she seeks out experiences that can make her remember what it feels like to truly be alive. at her core, xyra is loyal to a fault. it takes terrible, evil things to make her lose faith in someone that she has chosen to care about. she is however loyal above all else to her queen. despite being able to love and hate mortals after spending time around them, all pale in comparison to the deity that has shaped her existence. she is deeply devoted to the raven queen and refuses to put anything else above her faith. given her long lifespan, a single lifetime for a mortal race means nothing to her -- no matter what she gets up to on the mortal plane, her end goal is simple: to return to the raven queen what was stolen from her. her ideals are simple. her moral code is very neutral, based solely upon the situations presented to her. xyra does not believe in good nor evil, only action and lack of action. she will kill those who have harmed others and show no hope for redemption, she will save those who yearn to do better with their lives. every person she meets is judged very quickly according to how much harm they intend to cause her or others. deep down, she wishes that she could be more open and inviting. the mortals she has spent time with during her visit have shown her infinite emotions that she simply cannot find a way to feel herself. sorrow and joy are easy to understand on paper, but xyra finds each of them to be very difficult to find within herself. only a handful of times has she been able to truly feel, and mostly that has been anger. she wants to be soft, she wants to be kind, but she has absolutely no idea how.
backstory (abridged). xyra was born in the feywild centuries ago to winter court nobles, but followed the raven queen into the shadowfell long enough ago that memories of her life before that point seem more like dreams than reality. she struggles to remember who she was, and even the early days of her tenure in the shadowfell. on the material plane, xyra was tasked with hunting down a relic for the raven queen that belonged to the royal family of steepwind, astelar. once discovered, she was given a choice: join the royal guard or perish. of course, she took the former option in the hopes of outlasting the emperor, eventually utilising her immortal lifespan to retrieve the relic once the royal family were no more.as she ascended the ranks of the royal knights of steepwind, xyra was given a post close to the princess, alexandria. with the amount of time she spent in close proximity to the princess, xyra began to fall for her. though at first she kept her feelings to herself, it became evident that xyra's fondness for alexandria was beyond that of a bodyguard. once discovered, alexandria began to use xyra's feelings against her, feigning interest in the elf before eventually realising that xyra was perhaps the only person that knew the true alexandria, and the only person that she could trust.xyra assisted, unknowingly, in alexandria's assassination of her father, the emperor. shortly after, alexandria ascended to empress of steepwind with xyra at her side.

personality. on the outside silas seems incredibly reckless and obnoxious, as most young brujah tend to. he has a tendency to speak before he thinks, often ending up getting himself into trouble that he has to argue himself out of. he is outspoken about social issues and is a loud supporter of socialist ideals. this can very easily get to the point where he berates people he deems too materialistic, and digs his heels in when he refuses to partake in activities that go against his morals. at his core, silas is very loyal, often to his detriment. having been brainwashed by the camarilla almost instantly as a fledgling, his primary loyalties lie with the sect. his loyalty to his clan comes second, but only those who follow the teachings of critias and by extension, menele. his loyalty can be earned on a personal level quite easily: you scratch his back and he'll scratch yours. he accepts the lasombra's plight to join the camarilla and (even despite being forced) assists them at the behest of prince kevin jackson. his ideals are a strong part of his personality which often come into conflict with his camarilla loyalty. one of his main ideals is sticking up for those 'beneath' him, though that is almost diametrically opposed to what he's supposed to be achieving in the camarilla. he hates authority, and yet is tightly bound on the elders' leash. silas has always wanted to be seen as an equal with his peers and will defend anyone to the point of violence. silas does not back down from a fight when he feels that he is protecting someone else from a worse fate. deep down, silas recognises his privileges, and tries to use them for good as best he can. there are times where he doesn't realise that he's stepping on toes or speaking for people rather than listening to what they have to say. he's a hypocrite, and he struggles to admit it. his debate skills have grown exponentially since his time in the camarilla, mostly due to menele's blood running through his veins. even when countered, silas does not back down. his mentor being a former ancient greek philosopher definitely has its benefits when it comes to the power of persuasive speaking.
backstory (LIFE). content warning for domestic abuse. silas was born to central american immigrant parents carlos & maria garcia. growing up, silas witnessed his father's abuse of his mother both verbal and physical, as well as emotional and financial. his mother worked at a laundromat and his father... occasionally came back with more than enough money to return their utilities for the next month. he grew up understanding the value of money as well as an understanding that violence was a means to cause fear. after witnessing his father's abuse towards his mother all the way into his later teen years, silas swore to protect as many people as he could from those that would attempt to cause them harm. this did lead to many an altercation with his own father from as early as when silas was ten years old, with growing degrees of success as he aged. by the time silas was eighteen and ready to leave home, he and his father were no longer on speaking terms.note: silas refuses to speak any spanish because of his family, only ever using it to address his mother. if anyone ever spoke it to him, he would ignore them completely. he is entirely white passing and is aware of his privilege because of it. extra note for sensitivity warning: silas' experience is based tangentially off my own, rest assured i'm not demonising latino families, just my own.throughout his teenage years and early twenties, silas had a turbulent relationship with his girlfriend, willow palmer. willow is almost the complete opposite of silas: she grew up with a rich, smothering family that granted her everything she could ever want. willow never knew poverty or shame in the same way that silas did. he did, however, manage to charm her in their classes together in middle school and their relationship ended up being one with both extreme highs and extreme lows. despite being terrified of becoming his father, violence was the only passion silas had ever known. although he never laid a hand on willow, his verbal and emotional abuse of willow hit its peak when they both enrolled at the same university. jealousy ran rampant through silas' mind, and the two of them had forever enjoyed pushing each other's buttons in order to elicit strong emotional reactions from one another.backstory (DEATH). ok my brain farted and i ran out of steam so the tldr is: his sire was supposed to turn him over to the sabbat but didn't and was put to final death because of it, meanwhile silas decided to ghoul willow and pissed off a toreador that was planning to embrace her, he was "adopted" by critias from the camarilla and sent to the elder's school for good camarilla kindred and essentially brainwashed into being a camarilla lapdog. he is on good terms with the sheriff of chicago, damien, and does occasional jobs for him. chicago by night chronicle specific: he's tasked alongside his coterie to assist the lasombra in joining the camarilla, and are also in the process of working out what the entity beneath chicago is, while also being threatened by a sabbat pack known as the seven fires.
